Job Description

As a Facilities Maintenance Assistant (Band 1), you will provide front-line support for hard services and basic building maintenance activities. This is an entry-level role focused on assisting with the safe, efficient operation of building systems and responding to routine maintenance tasks.

You will work under supervision to support the upkeep of facilities, ensuring a safe and functional working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Support (Hard Services)

  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks across the site (e.g., minor repairs, lamp replacement, simple fixes)
  • Support planned and reactive maintenance activities under supervision
  • Carry out routine checks of building systems (e.g., lighting, HVAC, basic plant checks)
  • Report faults, defects, and safety issues promptly

Work Order & Task Management

  • Respond to simple maintenance requests via work order systems
  • Update task status and escalate issues where required
  • Support completion of assigned tasks within agreed timelines

Facilities & Equipment Checks

  • Perform daily/weekly inspections of plant rooms, common areas, and equipment
  • Ensure areas are clean, safe, and free from hazards
  • Assist with maintaining tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all health and safety procedures and site rules
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
  • Support compliance checks under guidance

Vendor & Team Support

  • Assist technicians and contractors during maintenance works
  • Escort contractors when required
  • Work collaboratively with wider facilities and site teams

Scope & Impact

  • Provides basic operational support for building maintenance
  • Works under close supervision with clear instructions
  • Focus on task completion, safety, and reliability

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Basic education (e.g., secondary school or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in maintenance, manual work, or facilities support is beneficial but not essential

Skills & Competencies

  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Basic practical/handy skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good attitude and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow safety procedures

Technical Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of tools and equipment (desirable)
  • Interest in building systems or maintenance trades

  • Flexibility to support operational needs
  • Ability to work on-site and move between areas
