Strategic/Venture Capital team plays a critical role in identifying and investing in high-impact technologies, companies, and partnerships that align with Thermo Fisher’s mission to enable customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

Position Overview

We are seeking an investment team partner and to drive investment sourcing, strategic partnerships, and commercial value creation within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Strategic Capital team. This individual will play a key role in identifying emerging companies, structuring investment opportunities, and supporting strategic collaborations that enhance Thermo Fisher’s long-term growth.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in venture capital, corporate development, corporate venture capital or strategic partnerships within life sciences, diagnostics, or pharma services, combined with deep industry knowledge and a proven ability to evaluate and execute high-value deals.

The Successful Candidate will be a diligent and thorough leader who proven ability to cultivate relationships and foster partnerships. This person’s professional focus will be on generating value for multiple constituents through the development of mutually beneficial partnership

This position will report into the Head of Strategic Capital for Thermo Fisher (which reports into the Chief Operating Officer)

Key Responsibilities

Opportunity Sourcing & Deal Execution

Identify and evaluate high-potential early- to growth-stage companies aligned with Thermo Fisher’s strategic priorities.

Develop relationships with entrepreneurs, venture capital firms, accelerators, and industry leaders to enhance deal flow.

Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and due diligence to assess investment opportunities.

Work cross-functionally with internal business units to align investments with Thermo Fisher’s technology, product, and commercial strategies.

Support transaction structuring, financial modeling, and transaction recommendations to executive leadership.

Corporate Strategy & Internal Engagement

Work closely with senior executives to shape investment thesis, portfolio strategy, and sector focus areas.

Develop reports, presentations, and thought leadership to communicate investment trends and strategic insights to internal stakeholders.

Support M&A activities by identifying early-stage companies that could become future acquisition targets.

Represent Thermo Fisher at industry conferences, investor summits, and corporate innovation events.

Innovation Strategic Partnerships General Manager & Ecosystem Development

Build program plan to achieve $500m of revenues through commercial equity and non-equity innovation partnerships by 2030 and execute.

Establish and manage additional fund vehicles as needed and associated partnership opportunity evaluation.

Establish and manage strategic partnerships with biotech, pharma, diagnostics, and life sciences tools companies, including Thermo Fisher’s Biotech VC commitment portfolio.

Collaborate with internal R&D, commercial, and business unit leaders to identify synergies between investments and Thermo Fisher’s existing businesses.

Support portfolio companies in commercial scaling, regulatory strategy, and market expansion.

Act as a bridge between external innovators and Thermo Fisher’s business units, ensuring investment alignment with corporate strategy.

Act as member of target company boards or serve in non-voting board observer roles as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

10+ years of experience in venture capital, corporate development, business development, or strategy within life sciences, diagnostics, biotech, or healthcare.

Strong understanding of biopharma R&D, diagnostics, life sciences tools, CDMOs, CROs, and emerging healthcare technologies.

Proven track record in investment sourcing, strategic partnerships, and deal execution.

Experience structuring deals, conducting due diligence, and negotiating term sheets.

Deep industry network across biotech, pharma, startups, and venture capital.

Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or a related field required; MBA, PhD, or advanced degree preferred.
