Job Description
The Applied Analytics team is seeking an innovative Data Scientist to support operational effectiveness within the Temperate Hub. In this role, you will drive efficiency in breeding operations, resource allocation, and strategic planning by combining advanced mathematical optimization techniques with practical agricultural operations.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize planting and harvest operations, equipment utilization, and seed movement logistics within the Temperate Hub.
- Create statistical models and forecasts for resource requirements and capacity planning based on volume projections.
- Model and assess risks for proposed operational changes and deliver data-driven process improvement recommendations focused on efficiency, data quality, and overall effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for optimization, automation, and standardization, and implement solutions that support strategic decision-making.
- Consistently document and communicate findings to stakeholders to drive data-driven decision-making and innovation in trial and operations activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's or PhD in Operations Research, Data Science, Plant Breeding, Statistics, or related field.
- 3+ years of proven industry experience in either a commercial or academic setting.
- Advanced knowledge of mathematical optimization techniques (linear programming, mixed-integer programming, constraint programming, and hybrid techniques), statistical modeling and forecasting, and Monte Carlo simulation methods.
- Proficient programming skills in R, Python, or other languages.
- Experience with mathematical optimization software such as Gurobi, CPLEX, etc.
- Familiarity with version control, software reproducibility tools, and cloud-based development environments.
Desired:
- Experience with visualization tools (R Shiny, Tableau, etc.).
- Technical understanding of commercial plant breeding operations.
