Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond rapidly to all production breakdowns with a strong sense of urgency.
- Access, modify, and/or integrate programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to meet production demands.
- Diagnose and remedy machine electrical faults; determine necessary repairs.
- Perform complex adjustments, repairs, and replacements on motors, controls, electric tools, or other electrical equipment.
- Learn machine operating and maintenance requirements of all production machines and equipment.
- Interpret blueprints from locations outside of the U.S. Make corrections and/or modifications to electrical schematics, sketches, etc., needed when upgrades are performed.
- Install plant processing equipment including AC variable frequency drives, DC drives, timers, counters, encoders, temperature controllers, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), and thermocouples.
- Perform necessary programming changes required to move, add, or repair phone, voicemail, alarm, plant networking, and plant access equipment systems.
- Perform calibration procedures on all required plant equipment in order to comply with FDA and customer requirements. Complete and maintain all documentation as required.
- Design and engineer PLC programming and human machine interface (HMI) programming needed for new machines, machine upgrades, and HMI repairs.
- Perform all installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) testing for the maintenance department. This includes supporting documentation generation and maintenance.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Associate’s degree in electrical/electronics technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of maintenance experience including experience performing electrical, electronic/mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
- Electrical/electronic controls experience in a 480 volt, three-phase industrial setting.
- Hands-on PLC programming experience with AB SLC500, AB ControlLogix, and AB Panel View HMI.
- Industrial instrumentation troubleshooting and integration (temperature controllers, steam and electric heat applications, flow applications, pressure applications, etc.).
- Experience with variable frequency drive troubleshooting and integration into existing equipment.
- Experience with network operating systems, administration, cabling, hubs, and routers.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, Machinery and Building Codes in an industrial environment. Understanding of NEC, OSHA, GMP, and other safety requirements. Ability to understand, comply with and apply the National Electric Code (NEC) in an industrial setting.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of installation, maintenance, and repair related to electrical equipment and facilities.
- Ability to develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan for all electrical and electronic equipment.
- Ability to use common precision measuring instruments, gauges, and hand tools.
- Understanding of the operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in electrical work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Strong attention to detail, communication, teamwork, organization, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with managers and production staff.
- Commitment to following instructions, responding to management direction, taking responsibility for own actions, working flexible hours, overtime, and various shifts when necessary to reach goals, completing tasks on time or notifying appropriate person(s) with an alternate plan.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read technical schematic drawings and blueprints.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, industrial engineering technology, or related field.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Physical Requirements |

During the performance of duties, the employee generally works within the Manufacturing plant and may be frequently exposed to environments with loud noises, running equipment with moving mechanical parts, dust, and other airborne particles.
