Description
The Purchasing & Inventory Specialist is responsible for purchasing and managing of inventory of bulk chemical, factory supplies and packaging supplies for the overall company operations. The Purchasing & Inventory Specialist will also support the Procurement Manager in approving and qualifying new vendors.
- SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate inventory counts on a weekly basis, or as needed, for all bulk chemical, packaging supplies and factory supplies, including all filtration supplies, process chemicals, CIP chemicals and effluent chemicals/supplies.
- Conduct month end inventory counts for all supplies to assist the accounting staff in month end financial closing.
- Maintain regular contact with all outside suppliers/vendors to purchase all supplies as is required to meet operational needs.
- Work with the Procurement Manager to identify, qualify and negotiate competitive prices with new and existing vendors.
- Track and understand all lead times for supplies and changing market conditions to prevent any out-of-stock situations.
- Ensure that all supplies and chemicals are received on time, are not damaged upon receipt and stored in the correct location.
- Improve overall inventory management to make inventory counts easier, keep supplies in good condition, organized, etc.
- Understand production usage and report on higher-than-normal usage.
- Assist Operations and Accounting in yearly budgetary process for all supplies and report on actual usage versus budget throughout the fiscal year.
- Must follow food safety regulations.

Qualifications
- EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience
- TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required; Good computer skills.
Purchasing and Inventory Management or 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
using computer management tools, with demonstrated leadership skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong communication skills (written and oral).
Problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize.
Reliable, motivated, dedicated, and committed.
Must demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset.
- EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
3+ years purchasing & inventory management experience in a manufacturing environment using computer management tools.
