The Fermentation Scientist Manager will support and conduct fermentation process development utilizing bacteria and fungi as live microbe technologies for agriculture applications. Provide technical expertise to scale bench top processes to production scale, defining quality control specifications to ensure product integrity and efficacy. Partner with key stakeholders at all phases of product development to ensure process quality specifications are met, supporting ongoing projects in the laboratory, field, and/or production locations. Travel to third party sites to support tech transfer processes and troubleshooting as needed. Fermentation laboratory skills, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills are required.
What will you do:
Product and Process Development Support
Designing and executing fermentation studies.
Collaborating with third-party fermentation companies for development, optimization, and biomass production.
Scaling fermentation processes from lab to production.
Ensuring robustness, repeatability, and quality control.
Tech transfer and troubleshooting.
Travel to support fermentation activities.
Applying cost of goods and ROI methodologies.
Third-Party Fermentation Provider Strategy
Developing long-term fermentation capacity strategy.
Identifying and managing third-party providers to meet project needs.
Data Interpretation and Reporting
Interpreting experimental results.
Summarizing and presenting findings.
Serving as a fermentation SME.
Preparing documentation for tech transfer and regulatory submissions.
Miscellaneous/Travel/Ad Hoc Tasks
Travel to Mosaic or third-party sites.
Ad hoc support and cross-functional collaboration.
What will you need:
Bachelor's degree in Fermentation Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biotechnology
7+ years of fermentation experience in academic or industrial setting
Experience in biotech and/or agriculture companies (biotechnology, fertilizers, crop protection, seeds, etc.).
Strong background in fermentation media development, including the application of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies and relevant software tools.
Demonstrated success in transferring fermentation processes to toll manufacturing partners.
Hands-on experience scaling fermentation processes from lab or pilot scale to commercial production.
Experience working with both Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms for biomass production.
Demonstrated abilities in Fermentation and/or biotechnology
Knowledge of and training in good experimental design and basic statistics
