The Senior Manager Schedule Lead (Project Controls) role is accountable for ensuring compliance with J&J Worldwide Procedures and the implementation of scalable E&PS Project Controls tools, guidelines and industry best practices throughout the lifecycle of the project. This candidate will require a strong background in estimating, cost control, and risk management. This role will be part of the Americas Project Controls & Assurance team and a crucial part of strategic projects’ onsite teams.
An ideal candidate for this role will have strong leadership experience with demonstrated competency interfacing with multiple levels of the organization including senior leaders (internally & externally); strong networking and relationship building skills, proven experience driving progress on large capital projects while remaining focused under ambiguous and complex situations.
Key relationships include collaborative working relationships with the J&J Project Delivery team, cross functional business teams, external partners, key stakeholders and business leaders. This role will also ensure alignment with key E&PS functional partners (Global Finance, Project Management, Procurement and Facilities Management).
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Project Controls Director to drive cost transparency & certainty, ensure project progress and reporting throughout the project phases and implement lessons learned.
- Drive standardization through the ideation, definition, execution and assessment phases; including but not limited to managing detailed cost metrics, reporting, implementing Risk Management processes and communicating best practices.
- Work with teams to align estimate and cost accounting to ensure seamless integration of cost management.
- Ensure that projects are implementing key Risk Management processes at all stages of project delivery (cost risk assessments).
- Attend meetings during the engineering, construction and commissioning/qualification phases.
- Support the Designer (AE), Construction Management (CM) and C&Q firm’s performance with respect to cost control, cashflow, and change management.
- Support project management in evaluating cost and analyzing change orders and forecasts.
- Review construction estimates trend reports prior to and following the establishment of GMA/GMP contract with contractor.
- Assist with the development and review of project estimates. Review will include analysis of scope definition, inclusions and exclusions, unit rates, subcontractor costs, fees and markups, and indirect costs including general conditions.
- Evaluate subcontract procurement plan, track performance against target dates.
- Review costs for subcontracts prior to award, validate against project budget.
- Evaluate project contingency budgets and monitor usage throughout the duration of the project.
- Review payment applications to validate progress claimed and ensure compliance with commercial/contract terms and project cashflow objectives.
- Support maintenance of 21-Tab / ESR (monthly cost report) that accurately:
- Reflect status against the funding authorization.
- Identify key accomplishments, critical issues, and potential areas of concern.
- Track project cashflow against plan.
- Track project safety statistics.
- Identify areas of opportunities and risks while recommending courses of action that enable the project team to optimize its cost performance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent university degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management from an accredited institution required.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Minimum 8-10 years of related Project Controls experience supporting major capital projects / relative business experience and project or operations management.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering / construction / CQV / projects controls execution.
- Prior experience managing complex capital projects in Supply Chain, R&D, Pharma and Med Device.
- Knowledge and experience of translating complex business needs into clear final project objectives.
- Track record of developing and maintaining highly collaborative partnerships at all levels within the organization.
- Highly skilled listening and problem-solving skills when managing potential project conflicts.
- Full working knowledge of Project Controls methodologies in estimating, cost and schedule development and risk control processes.
- Familiarity with multiple contract types and implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with J&J Project Management approaches.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience in an FDA regulated industry.
- Experience working under GMA/GMP and or EPC contracts.
Other:
- Fluency (oral & written) in the English language is required
- This position will require 100% onsite presence in Wilson, NC
