Position Summary: The Product Regulatory Specialist is a solution orientated and resolution focused individual that leads global regulatory compliance for ingredients, finished goods, and technologies across multiple markets. This role owns regulatory strategy, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration for product regulatory projects. Collaborates with Product Management, Production, Supply Chain, Safety, Quality, Engineering, and Research & Development on the support of existing and development of new products by providing risk assessments, regulatory assessments, and recommendations for regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts regulatory assessments for raw materials and finished products
  • Provides advice on food safety systems, including the evaluation and monitoring of supplier compliance.
  • Reviews supplier documentation Materials Sourcing Questionnaire’s (MSQs) and develop product regulatory statements.
  • Prepares and maintains regulatory documentation including allergen, GMO, origin, and safety statements.
  • Ensures regulatory integrity from ideation to product obsolescence.
  • Collaborates with R&D on analytical methods ensuring chemical and material regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluates raw material usage for compliance with GRAS, FCC, EC 1333/2008, and others as needed.
  • Collaborate with Sales, R&D, and Product Managers to determine regulatory testing needs.
  • Supports voluntary certifications such as Organic, Kosher, and gluten-free.
  • Supervises the Product Regulatory Coordinator, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development support.
  • Guides and develops team members through mentoring and structured training programs to build capability and foster growth.
  • Leads and mentors cross-functional teams to align regulatory project goals and timelines
  • Provides oversight and training to ensure regulatory milestones are met.

Other Duties

  • Participates in internal and external audits related to product safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and updating of regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Supports cross-functional initiatives related to sustainability, labeling, and environmental compliance.
  • Represents the company in industry working groups or regulatory forums as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Regulatory Science, or related field
  • At least two years’ experience in regulatory affairs in the food, beverage, chemical, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience reviewing and writing policies and procedures required.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) Required

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in interpreting and applying food safety regulations, including FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, and SQF standards.
  • Skilled in allergen control and microbiological risk assessment for food products and ingredients.
  • Proficient in regulatory documentation and document control practices, ensuring compliance and traceability.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable compliance strategies.
  • Experienced in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation plans aligned with food safety standards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to cross-functional teams.
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, fostering collaboration across departments.
  • Proven project management capabilities, including planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills, with a focus on timely follow-up and data accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other regulatory and quality management software tools.

when in manufacturing facility. Visual acuity is needed to read computer screens and reports. Hearing ability
for phone and in-person communication.

Working Conditions

This position typically functions in a business environment. There may be occasional travel by car and plane with possibility of overnight travel. There will be exposure to moderate noise levels, fumes, dust, chemicals, and allergens when traveling or in manufacturing facility.
