Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Medical Affairs Technology, this individual will be responsible for driving delivery of technologies and platforms to meet Medical Affairs customer relationship and performance measurement needs. This leader partners with Medical Affairs Excellence, Medical Affairs Affiliate leaders, Global Medical Strategy and Operations Leaders and the IT organization to implement technology solutions. This role advises internal stakeholders on how to enable business capabilities with enterprise technology tools. Key to the success of this role is aligning tools to performance expectations, continuously adapting compliant, efficient and effective technologies to the changing business needs, and working within a matrix environment to cultivate tool advocacy with senior leadership.
While specific system responsibilities may change over time, our initial need is for an expert in Material Review platforms (Veeva MedInquiry, VeevaVault, MedDocs, etc).
This is a site based role in Foster City, CA at our global headquarters. We will also consider candidates at our facility in Raleigh, NC. Due to the needs of the business we cannot offer remote work for this position.
Specific responsibilities:
- Specific responsibilities, in close collaboration with the Country Medical Director and with the Therapeutic Area Directors, include but are not limited to:
- Plans and implements the Canada Medical Grants Program and is involved in the Grant Review Committee.
- Leads the medical planning process at the TA level, the measurement of Medical Affairs effectiveness, and the departmental goal setting and tracking. Creates reports and presentations.
- Provides budget oversight in collaboration with the Country Medical Director and the local Finance Lead
- Provides project management to the MLT
- Oversees and leads initiatives to raise the standards within Medical Affairs, including training programs. Partners with HR and L&D in developing and coordinating the training and development plans for Medical Affairs.
- Ensures consistency and efficiency of all relevant departmental operations and alignment with company procedures, policies and processes. Provides quality oversight of Medical Affairs activities including SOPs, training and audit programs and related recordings. Develops, refines, and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for Medical Affairs activities.
- Works on special projects in close collaboration with the Country Medical Director
Essential skills:
- BSc, MSc in life science related field or comparable work experience
- Minimum 5 plus years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or health care industry, ideally in Medical Affairs
- Strong project management skills
- Experience with digital processes and solutions
- Superior organisation and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but also to work with multiple different Managers and on multiple simultaneous projects
- Ability to embrace Gilead’s patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards. Knowledge and appreciation of applicable regulatory and legal requirements for Medical Affairs
- Ability to lead and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to understand, analyse and communicate complex information in a clear and concise way.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail
- Strategic mindset with a focus on collaboration and excellence
- Ability to develop effective solutions to complex problems
The salary range for this position is:
Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
