Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Performs a variety of technical duties and activities related to OVD Blankmaking Development including: experimental wareflow management, chemical preparation-handling-and-testing, collection of data from manufacturing process, data analysis and equipment maintenance and/or modifications. May work with a range of personnel including development, engineering, operations or 3rd party vendors. Use measurement or process data to help engineers resolve production upsets, improve manufacturing yields or develop new processes or products. May lead and direct P&M trades, contract trades or other technicians to manage ware, equipment repairs, equipment calibrations, or process upgrades.
Major Responsibilities
- Works with blank making teams focused on product innovation, cost reduction projects, etc.
- Works with engineers to develop and execute experimentation required to develop and integrate new processes & products into production.
- Works on innovation projects to reduce costs, downtime and/or defects to increase yields.
- May develop or implement new measurement devices for development or production purposes.
- May operate measurement devices and collect data to support product or process understanding.
- May aid in the install and/or debug of new equipment or processes.
- Trains and coaches’ new development, engineering and operations personnel on equipment and processes.
- Understands equipment used in key processes and interprets data from processes to solve problems.
- Proactively communicates with front-line production workforce and technical teams to assure that safety, health, equipment standard operating procedures and environmental regulatory compliance are assured for new equipment or processes.
- Provides inputs to project plans that identify resources and accurate timelines
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- Monday - Friday (40 hours) 100% onsite (overtime when required)
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in technical field or strong Math/Science background and/or experiences.
- 3+ years’ experience in technician roles.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Other technician and/or operator roles that lead to a better understanding of the equipment and processes.
- Fluent in the Microsoft suite of products- Outlook, Word, Excel. Willing and able to learn new software.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with vapor deposition glassmaking techniques
- Experience in a Corning Development group
- Hot glassworking experience
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Documentation and or technical report writing experience

The range for this position is $60,620.00 - $83,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
