Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Ensuring new products and product changes are entered accurately & in a timely manner into the Wilmington plant systems. Changing the status of fiber and WIP in the WL systems with the goal of preventing suspect fiber from shipping and enabling passing fiber/WIP to be used in manufacturing and sold. Support the quality department and the plant with other initiatives some of which are quarantine and on-hold fiber management, support for internal and external audit, quality department reports development, support of internal corrective action plans, engagement with change management systems, support of process and development projects, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Own entering new products into our systems (CAMSTAR & Factory Works)
- Be responsible for product changes and maintaining allowed product change list
- Own disposition of recurring quarantines (PCCA, PMD, Cure, Bow, etc.)
- Support getting ware released for shipments
- Support training of new employees to ensure they understand the requirements of the quality management system and how to interact with our specific systems such as EtQ, MCN/MCS, DCC, etc
- Participate in weekly on-call coverage approximately once / month
- Own training for BSA (Break Source Analysis). Schedule and lead BSA training, complete certification for plant personnel, complete BSA as needed for backlog, support projects BSA work
- Be the technical resource for FTIR benches
- Be a certified internal auditor and conduct audits each year
- Support the scheduling of Layered Process Audits as needed
- Support & lead quality department projects
- Support the quality engineers as needed
Experiences/Education - Required
- Associate or bachelor’s degree
- Detail oriented
- Self-directing
- Ability to focus on the task at hand with others working / speaking near you
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively with minimal supervision
- Written and oral communication skills
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
- Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Ability to learn new computer systems quickly
- Ability to compile and analyze data, producing reports if needed
- Sound decision making skills to make decisions based on data
Experiences/Education - Desired
- 2+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Understanding of fiber process and equipment
- Hands-on technical skills using test and measuring equipment
- Ability to use stereomicroscope and compound microscope
- Experience in ISO 9001, TL 9000 is a plus
- Yellow or Green Belt

The range for this position is $57,578.00 - $79,171.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
