CEM Corporation (Matthews, NC) is seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Applications Scientist to provide proactive, high-level applications support for CEM’s Life Science instrumentations used in peptide synthesis and purification. The Applications Scientist is responsible for providing expert applications support, troubleshooting customer questions and issues, and supporting customer training for new instrumentation sales throughout the United States and Canda. This role works closely with the Life Science Inside Service Specialists to resolve customer application and technical issues as efficiently and completely as possible.

The successful candidate will maintain strong chemistry applications knowledge and technical proficiency with CEM’s Life Science instrumentation, including the MultiPep, Liberty, and Prodigy product lines. This includes full competency in operations and troubleshooting the associated systems, training others, and providing applications guidance for peptide synthesis and purification workflows. In addition to direct customer support, the Applications Scientist will contribute to chemistry research projects, product and software testing, development of technical support documentation, and sales and marketing activities as directed by the Principal Scientist. Success in this role will be measured by the quality and effectiveness of customer support and training, with feedback from customers, Sales, Product Management, and internal technical teams contributing to overall performance.

This is a full-time, onsite position based at CEM Corporation’s headquarters in Matthews, NC. Travel throughout the United States and Canada will be required up to approximately 25%.

Responsibilities

Applications Scientist Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

Customer Support

  • Provide direct, high-level applications support to customer accounts using CEM’s Life Science instrumentation for peptide synthesis and purification
  • Provide applications and technical support to CEM employees, sales representatives, service personnel, and dealers
  • Respond to incoming customer phone calls and peptide application inquiries received through CEM’s synthesis support channels
  • Work closely with Life Science Inside Service Specialists to troubleshoot and resolve customer application and instrument-related issues promptly and thoroughly
  • Maintain strong working knowledge and hands-on proficiency with CEM’s MultiPep, Liberty, and Prodigy instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot peptide synthesis and purification workflows and provide customers with appropriate applications guidance
  • Conduct applications training for CEM personnel and dealers
  • Provide applications training for customer accounts and new instrument installations as needed
  • Communicate clearly and proactively throughout the support process to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction

Sales & Marketing Support

  • Provide product information, part numbers, technical documentation, and other requested information to customers and CEM representatives
  • Partner with Account Managers and Sales personnel by providing technical and applications expertise as needed
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions related to peptide synthesis and purification applications
  • Provide technical support at industry conferences, trade shows, and CEM sales events as needed
  • Assist Sales with communicating the capabilities and applications of CEM Life Science Instrumentation
  • Communicate relevant customer and market feedback to Sales, Product Management, and other internal teams

Product Development Support

  • Contribute to chemistry research and applications projects as directed by the Principal Scientist
  • Perform instrument performance, applications, and software testing for new and existing products as needed
  • Assist with evaluating product performance and identifying potential applications or technical improvements
  • Generate and maintain technical support materials, applications documentation, training resources, and other product support documentation
  • Communicate recurring application issues and product improvement opportunities to Product Management, R&D, Engineering, and Service
  • Provide applications feedback and technical insight to support new product development and improvements to existing Life Science products
  • Perform other Life Science applications, research, and product support activities as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Required: BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field scientific field
  • Strong knowledge of peptide chemistry, including peptide synthesis and purification principles and workflows
  • Previous laboratory experience with peptide synthesis, purification, or related chemistry applications strongly preferred
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting scientific or laboratory instrumentation
  • Experience with automated peptide synthesis and/or purification instrumentation preferred
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently evaluate and resolve applications-related issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex scientific and technical information
  • Strong presentation and training skills with the ability to effectively instruct customers, employees, and dealers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer-focused approach
  • Self-motivated and resourceful with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and commercial teams ‘Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customer requests, projects, and priorities
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 23% throughout the Unites States and Canada
  • Must be able to work onsite at CEM Corporation’s Matthews NC headquarters
