Job Description

Boundless Science is seeking an engineer with strong technical skills to develop a novel oxygenator for cardiopulmonary support. The R&D engineer will be responsible for system integration and individual components of the oxygenator, as well as eventually supporting testing in animals and human clinical trials.

Job Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the design development. Build prototypes and text fixtures to run different experiments.
  • Manage projects and individual tasks by collaborating with other engineers to ensure timely completion of prototype assembly and testing.
  • Work within the medical device quality management system to ensure completion of all appropriate documentation under quality systems (e.g. requirement specifications, risk analysis, test protocols and reports).
  • Write and execute test protocols based on design requirements
  • Identify deficiencies in the device’s performance and assist to modify the device design, or requirement specifications as necessary.
  • Write test reports, summarize results and report on findings through documents or presentations.
  • Coordinate and manage vendor relationships to deliver timely prototype components.
  • Various other tasks as assigned to support testing and clinical trial readiness.

Job Requirements

  1. Experience in device research and development. (Bonus: blood oxygenation, pulmonary support, or extracorporeal systems experience).
  2. Strong background in engineering or life sciences, with demonstrated skills in prototyping and device iteration (Bonus: Solidworks experience).
  3. Expertise in product development processes, translating clinical needs into technology solutions, and improving device safety and efficacy.
  4. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify technological and clinical challenges and propose innovative solutions.
  5. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and document development progress.
  6. Teamwork and collaboration capabilities for integrating input from R&D, clinical, and cross-functional staff to drive product success.
  7. Commitment to improving patient outcomes and awareness of the clinical context of device use and user needs.
  8. Desire to have fun and work in a start-up environment.
