As we prepare to bring our first product to market, we are seeking an Upstream Technician – Harvest/Bioreactor to join our upstream production team.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Upstream Technician to support harvest and bioreactor operations in a dynamic lab and manufacturing environment. In this role, you will work hands-on with large-scale bioreactors, monitor and adjust process parameters, and carry out harvest activities to ensure consistent product yield and quality. You’ll also contribute to equipment operation and maintenance, process monitoring, and accurate documentation while adhering to GMP standards.

This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience with advanced bioprocessing technologies, collaborate across teams, and play an integral part in bringing innovative cultivated meat products to market. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and eager to grow within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This is a full-time, hourly (non-exempt) role eligible for generous benefits including PTO, health care, 401(k) with company match, and parental and medical leaves (subject to company policies including eligibility and waiting periods).

Your Day-to-Day

Day-to-day responsibilities will include a mix of the following duties as you work within the lab and manufacturing floor settings.

Bioreactor Operation

  • Assist with commissioning, operation, and monitoring of bioreactors.
  • Adjust key parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and agitation to optimize cell growth and product yield.
  • Perform sampling and in-process testing to ensure process control and consistency.

Harvest Activities

  • Execute harvest operations from large-scale bioreactors, ensuring product integrity and yield.
  • Operate centrifugation, filtration, and other harvest-related equipment.
  • Collect, process, and transfer materials to downstream processing.

Equipment Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Sanitation

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of bioreactors and harvest equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during bioreactor or harvest operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance, and sanitation.

Process Monitoring and Documentation

  • Monitor critical process parameters and document all adjustments.
  • Complete batch records, logbooks, and entries in electronic data systems with accuracy and timeliness.

Quality Control and Compliance

  • Adhere to all company policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with downstream processing, quality, and R&D teams to ensure seamless transfer of harvested material.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding process performance, deviations, or issues.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements or possess similar attributes that demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description:

  • Experience: Ideally 2+ years in bioprocessing, biotech, or pharmaceutical environments, with exposure to bioreactor operations and/or harvest activities.
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Bioprocessing, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or commensurate hands-on experience.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with bioreactor operations, aseptic techniques, and harvest processes such as centrifugation or filtration.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of cell culture principles, bioprocess optimization, and GMP regulations.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, work in sterile environments, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Other: Authorized to work in the U.S. with reliable commute to the worksite. Must pass pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical (as applicable).
