As we prepare to bring our first product to market, we are seeking an Upstream Technician- Cell Culture to join our upstream production team.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Upstream Technician to join our team and support cell culture and bioreactor operations in a dynamic lab and manufacturing environment. In this role, you will perform cell culture activities, assist with bioreactor setup and monitoring, and help optimize processes to ensure high-quality production. You’ll also contribute to equipment maintenance, process monitoring, and accurate documentation while adhering to GMP standards.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, gain hands-on experience with advanced bioprocessing equipment, and play a key role in delivering innovative products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-minded, and eager to grow within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This is a full-time, hourly (non-exempt) role eligible for generous benefits including PTO, Health Care, 401K with company match, and Parental and Medical Leaves (subject to company policies including eligibility and waiting periods).
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY
Day-to-day responsibilities will include a mix of the following duties as you work within the lab and manufacturing floor settings.
Inoculation
- Perform cell culture operations, including thawing, expansion, and passaging of cell lines in a sterile lab environment.
- Execute and optimize upstream processes, ensuring high-quality cell growth and viability.
Bioreactor Operation
- Assist with commissioning and ongoing monitoring of bioreactors
- Adjust process parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and agitation to optimize cell growth and product yield.
- Perform regular sampling and analysis of bioreactor contents to ensure process control and product quality.
Equipment Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Sanitation
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of bioreactors and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to upstream processes.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, maintenance, and repairs.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas to maintain a clean and safe production environment.
Process Monitoring and Documentation
- Monitor critical process parameters and document all observations and adjustments.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all production activities, including batch records, logbooks, and electronic data systems.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Adhere to all company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and other relevant regulations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with downstream processing, quality control, and R&D teams to ensure seamless production flow and product quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report any issues or deviations from standard processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements or possess similar attributes that demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description.
- Experience: Ideally, 2+ years of experience in bioprocessing or a similar role, preferably in a biotech, or pharmaceutical environment.
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Bioprocessing, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or commensurate hands-on experience
- Technical Skills: Experience in cell culture operations. Familiarity with aseptic techniques and bioprocess control systems.
- Knowledge: Understanding of cell culture principles, bioprocess optimization, and GMP regulations.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a sterile environment and perform repetitive tasks.
- Authorized to work in the US and commute regularly to the work site.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical (as applicable).
