Senior Director, North America Marketing
The Senior Director, NA Marketing reports to the Vice President of North America Commercial and is accountable for the brand and portfolio performance of Bavarian Nordic’s U.S. vaccines business—including travel vaccines and mpox (JYNNEOS®). As a key member of the North America Leadership Team, this role drives commercial strategy, trade/channel execution, and customer engagement across the healthcare, public health, and retail pharmacy sectors.
You will directly lead the U.S. Marketing organization to develop and execute integrated brand, trade, and channel strategies—including retail, managed care, and specialty distribution—to maximize awareness, access, and utilization. You will also provide mentorship and collaboration with the Canadian country management team. This role also includes close collaboration with global teams to ensure strategic alignment, optimized launches, and consistent performance tracking.
This senior leader will shape omnichannel marketing, guiding how the brand shows up across healthcare professionals (HCP), consumers, public health agencies, and pharmacy/retail trade partners. The role requires deep experience in commercial channel strategy, including pharmacy networks, wholesalers, distributors, and buying groups, as well as a proven ability to leverage digital and data-driven marketing to drive adoption and loyalty.
You will lead a high-performing team of marketers focused on brand, channel, and customer segment plans and manage a multimillion-dollar marketing budget with accountability for measurable business outcomes.
Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership & Brand Development
- Lead the U.S. vaccines marketing organization in developing portfolio-level strategy and channel-specific plans that drive brand growth across retail, public health, and provider networks
- Define clear go-to-market strategies across multiple customer segments: providers, payers, retail pharmacies, and distributors
- Represent the U.S. market in Global Brand and Product Teams, contributing insights on customer behavior, retail dynamics, and market access to shape global direction
- Oversee development of promotional campaigns, ensuring alignment across digital, trade, and in-field channels to strengthen brand equity and execution consistency
Trade, Channel & Retail Marketing
- Lead development of trade and retail channel strategies, optimizing performance across pharmacy (chain and independent), distributor, wholesaler, and specialty pharmacy networks
- Partner with Trade, Distribution, and Market Access teams to enhance product availability, stocking, and pull-through at retail and pharmacy points of care
- Design co-marketing and channel activation programs with key retail partners to drive consumer and pharmacist engagement
- Define channel KPIs and performance dashboards to monitor execution and ROI across retail and distribution pathways
Market Development & Product Launch
- Develop U.S. launch and lifecycle marketing plans, including trade readiness, stocking strategies, and retail activation components
- Drive awareness and adoption among healthcare providers, pharmacists, and public health stakeholders, supporting disease education and vaccination uptake
- Establish launch metrics to track market penetration, retail uptake, and channel performance
Omnichannel & Digital Marketing
- Provide strategic oversight for omnichannel campaigns, integrating email, social, search, programmatic, CRM, and pharmacy POS opportunities
- Ensure optimal use of digital targeting and analytics to inform segmentation, optimize message delivery, and improve customer engagement
- Partner with the field and digital teams to enhance HCP and pharmacist experiences, including content personalization and journey orchestration
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of brand and channel marketers, fostering a culture of accountability, agility, and collaboration
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Contracting & Pricing, Trade, Sales, Medical Affairs, Operations, and Global Marketing to ensure alignment and seamless execution
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the North America Commercial Leadership Team, translating complex market and channel insights into actionable business strategies
Operational & Financial Management
- Develop and manage an integrated marketing and trade budget aligned to portfolio goals and return on investment
- Ensure efficient resource allocation across channels and customer types, balancing brand equity and short-term revenue priorities
- Oversee marketing operations compliance and brand governance to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MBA preferred
- 10+ years of commercial experience in vaccines or pharmaceuticals, with demonstrated success leading brand, trade, and channel marketing
- Proven experience in retail and pharmacy channel strategy, including partnerships with major chains, wholesalers, or distributors
- Expertise in omnichannel marketing, with demonstrated results using digital, CRM, and data-driven platforms to improve engagement and conversion
- Experience leading product launches, including market development, trade readiness, and cross-functional alignment
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-level marketing teams and external agency partners
- Strong influencing skills and ability to operate within a matrixed, global organization
- Experience with Veeva CRM, marketing analytics, and CRM optimization a plus
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%)
Preferred Experience & Requirements:
- Deep understanding of U.S. retail and pharmacy landscape, including vaccination delivery models and consumer activation pathways
- Experience with public-private partnerships and channel incentive programs to drive vaccination rates
- Track record of leading cross-channel vaccination campaigns that integrate public health, pharmacy, and provider audiences

Salary Range - $182k - $295k
