We are looking for a High-throughput Lab Specialist (Lab Specialist I) to join our Agricultural Solutions team based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

As a High-throughput Lab Specialist, you will be part of BASF’s STA Molecular Analytics global laboratory network, which provides high-throughput molecular diagnostics for quality control and product development purposes to our field crop businesses. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced laboratory environment and share your technical expertise, mechanical and automation aptitude, and problem-solving skills to conduct PCR-based analytics in support of our Cotton and Soybean businesses. A desirable candidate will have firsthand experience performing and optimizing fluorescence-based PCR analytics using plant matrices, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, allelic discrimination, and SNP genotyping in a research or breeding capacity (greenhouse or field) while utilizing laboratory automation. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and conducting data analysis.

As a High-throughput Lab Specialist, you create chemistry by...

  • Conducting fluorescent PCR-based analysis in the wet lab by utilizing specialized laboratory automation platforms, including RT-PCR, tape arrays, microfluidic platforms, liquid handlers, and sequencing instruments.
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing lab equipment and processes through predefined procedures (root cause analysis and CAPA) and proposing solutions to increase efficiency within the lab.
  • Developing protocols and implementing processes under the guidance and collaboration of the STA Methods & Technologies team.
  • Processing and reviewing data using sophisticated software tools, identifying issues, and proactively communicating them with the team and/or quality to successfully deliver data to customers within a defined timeframe.
  • Managing multiple tasks, including assisting in the scheduling and coordination of wet lab work to meet internal deadlines.
  • Communicating any potential bottlenecks with the team leads and project coordinators.
  • Proactively communicating with equipment vendors regarding any issues and coordinating vendor services, including preventive maintenance and repairs.

If you...

  • Possess a Master’s degree, preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a high-throughput or diagnostic laboratory, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a high-throughput or diagnostic laboratory
  • Demonstrate expertise in laboratory automation and troubleshooting
  • Understand RT-PCR.
  • Show basic Microsoft and Visual Basic skills.
  • Additional scripting skills are a plus.
  • Exhibit high-throughput sequencing experience, which is advantageous.
  • Have experience with LIMS systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Comprehend plant breeding/agriculture and molecular diagnostics for genetically modified plant screening preferred.
