Position Summary
As the Director of Portfolio Strategy at AskBio, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our portfolio through strategic leadership and innovative thinking. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive portfolio strategy that integrates scientific, clinical, commercial, and financial perspectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, providing strategic insights that drive investment decisions and ensure alignment with our corporate goals.
In this dynamic role, you will facilitate governance processes and scenario planning, enabling effective portfolio reviews that enhance our decision-making capabilities. Your expertise will be crucial in building robust portfolio models in partnership with Finance and Program Leadership, supporting critical discussions on resource allocation and trade-offs. You will collaborate with R&D, Program Management, Technical Operations, and Regulatory teams to monitor program progress and assess risks, ensuring that our portfolio remains competitive and aligned with market needs.
This position not only allows you to influence our strategic direction but also offers the chance to lead long-range planning and communication with the Executive Leadership Team. As a strategic thought partner to senior leaders, you will help drive initiatives that enhance our portfolio analytics and decision-support tools, ultimately supporting the growth and success of our company.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of portfolio strategy, integrating scientific, clinical, commercial, and financial perspectives
Facilitate portfolio governance processes, scenario planning, and cross-functional portfolio reviews
Provide strategic insights to guide asset-level and portfolio-level investment decisions
Partner with Finance and Program Leadership to build portfolio models that support valuation, resource allocation, and trade-off discussions.\Collaborate with R&D, Program Management, Technical Operations, and Regulatory to track and assess program progress, risks, and dependencies
Lead long-range planning exercises, strategic planning cycles, and communications to the Executive Leadership Team
Serve as a strategic thought partner for the Head of Strategy and other senior leaders
Develop and continuously improve portfolio analytics, dashboards, and decision-support tools
Support strategic initiatives and special projects as needed (e.g., platform prioritization, organizational design, strategic due diligence)
Minimum Requirements
Master’s Degree in life sciences, business, or a related field
10+ years of progressive experience in portfolio strategy, corporate development, or strategic planning within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
Strong understanding of gene therapy and related markets, with proven ability to assess scientific, clinical and business potential
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and financial modeling skills
Strong program management and facilitation skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building capabilities
Experience leading cross-functional teams in the biotech or pharma environment
Emerging understanding and strong learning ability of technology platforms such as small molecules, biologics, or gene and cell therapy
Knowledge of disease pathobiology, standard of care, and unmet medical needs in core therapeutic areas
Business acumen and learning agility for the end-to-end drug development process
Entrepreneurial mindset and the courage to challenge the status quo
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, driving results through collaboration
Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a focus on self-development, peer development, and strategic influencing
