The role
Asensus is hiring a Microbiology Associate II to join the microbiology team. This role is a part of R&D and serves as a core team member on new product development and sustaining teams. The Microbiology Associate II defines testing requirements with a focus on biocompatibility, sterilization, use life, cleaning and disinfection, and executes project tasks including contract vendor management and device cycling. This role also serves as a shift lead, training and supervising team members during execution of Verification and Validation (V&V) testing.
What You'll Do
- Assist with activities relating to the design, testing and evaluation of surgical device systems with a focus on biocompatibility, sterilization, cleaning and disinfection.
- Determine and define testing requirements for biocompatibility, sterilization, cleaning, and disinfection to ensure compliance to industry standards, government specifications or other applicable source documents.
- Serve as a member of and microbiology representative on new product development and sustaining project teams.
- Evaluate product changes complying with design control procedures.
- Initiate and organize work with contract sterilization vendors and testing laboratories.
- Take devices through stated used life (simulated use and reprocessing) as needed.
- Train and supervise team members during execution of V&V testing.
- All other duties as directed.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a science or engineering discipline, preferably microbiology, biology, or material science and engineering.
- 3-7 years experience in industry, preferably medical device.
- Team and project lead experience, preferably supervisory.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to cross-reference documentation from different areas to ensure consistency and compliance to established requirements

- Proven ability to interpret, analyze, and present technical information using practical judgment.
- Capable of working in a cross-functioning team environment.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for 2-3 hours at a time with breaks.
